Robert McConnell Scottish Flake is an old blend that has changed over the decades. The modern blend is woody, spicy Kentucky, mildly peppery Perique and lightly sweet, earthy red Virginia. Together the flavours have fused and mellowed while being pressed and a modest rum topping has been added. These uniformly cut flakes are soft and rub easily but burn slower if folded into a pipe rather than being turned into a ribbon-like mixture. The smoke is medium strength with a mild sweetness, a tang and sour touch, though predominantly a savoury flavour. Its even throughout the bowl without becoming dull and leaves only a slight moisture when its finished.
