Taken from the common name for large piles of tobacco undergoing fermentation, the CAO Pilón Robusto harks back to the century before last when it was common to ferment tobacco leaf in small piles (Pilónes). This method (whilst slow) it was claimed to produce a better flavoured cigar as it reduced the amount of ammonia and sugar content in the leaf.
Re-creating this technique Agustin Garcia and Rick Rodriguez chose an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper along with a Nicaraguan binder and filler.
A medium bodied cigar with earthy notes along with chocolate, spice, and cedar. All in all an excellent flavour profile.
